Glass or ceramic whiteboard?
What matters most with glass is colour: our glass whiteboards come in 24 colours, glossy in Mood Glass or with a deep, satin matte colour in Silk Glass®. Both are made of 4 mm tempered, laminated, scratch-resistant safety glass. A ceramic whiteboard is white and hard-wearing. Here are the differences and how to choose for your room.
In short
| Surface | Material and finish | Colour | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mood Glass | 4 mm tempered, laminated, scratch-resistant safety glass. Glossy surface that reflects light | 24 colours on Mood Wall, chosen with Halleroed | Rooms where colour is part of the design |
| Silk Glass | 4 mm tempered, laminated, scratch-resistant safety glass. Satin matte surface that softens reflections | The same 24 colours on Silk Wall | Meeting rooms and video calls |
| Ceramic steel | Hard enamel, resists scratches and stains | White | Heavy use: teaching and presentations |
Choose a surface
-
Mood Glass, glossy glass Glossy; 24 colours on Mood Wall
The colour shows clearly and the surface reflects more light than matte glass, so try the position in the room’s real light. Mood Wall comes in 24 colours, chosen together with Halleroed.
-
Silk Glass, satin matte glass Satin matte, fewer reflections
The satin matte surface softens reflections, so the board reads better on video calls and from several angles. It writes and erases like standard whiteboard glass. Silk Wall comes in the same 24 colours.
-
Ceramic steel Durable white writing surface
Steel with a glass-like enamel fused on at a high temperature. The surface resists scratches and stains, is easy to clean and holds magnets, so it suits rooms where the board is used a lot. In our European range, the ceramic writing surface has a 30-year warranty under the applicable terms.

How to choose Start with how you work
Choose Mood Glass when the colour should show, Silk Glass to soften reflections and ceramic steel for a durable white surface with clear contrast. Also think about how you work: will the board stay on the wall, form a larger surface or move as the room changes? Models differ in what they offer.
Glass and construction
-
Low-iron glass The colour you chose
Iron can give glass a greenish tint. Mood Glass and Silk Glass use low-iron glass, so the colour looks the way it was chosen. Choose with a physical sample in the room where the board will hang, and try your marker against the colour.
-
4 mm tempered glass Stronger, but cannot be cut
Mood Wall, Silk Wall, Mood Spaces and Silk Spaces use 4 mm tempered, laminated, scratch-resistant safety glass. It is stronger than untempered glass. It cannot be cut or drilled afterwards, so choose the right size from the start. Mood Wall and Silk Wall sit 12 mm from the wall.
-
Colour right to the edge No shadow lines along the edge
On Mood Wall and Silk Wall, the edges of the glass are coloured too. This stops light from creating shadow lines along the edge, so the outline of the board has the same colour.
-
Concealed mounting Fittings included, not screws
Mood Wall and Silk Wall hang on concealed fittings at the top and magnets at the bottom. Fittings and mounting instructions are included, but not wall screws, which depend on how the wall is built.
-
Several boards in a row Side by side
Mood Spaces (glossy) and Silk Spaces (satin matte) are mounted side by side. Shared magnets at the joints keep the boards close to form a larger writing surface, but the joints remain visible.
Good to know
-
Care The same routine for all three
Erase on a dry surface with a clean eraser, and clean with water and a microfibre cloth when needed. This applies to all three surfaces. Never use soap-based cleaners or window cleaner. If the surface is heavily soiled, use an alcohol-based whiteboard cleaner (isopropanol). Read more in the care guide and Lintex Care & Maintenance (PDF).
Common questions about glass whiteboards and ceramic steel
-
Is a glass board the same as a glass whiteboard?
Yes, both mean a glass surface you write on and erase. A glass whiteboard does not have to be white; ours come in several colours.
-
Which magnets work on glass whiteboards?
All our magnets work on all our whiteboards, both glass and ceramic steel. Mood Wall and Silk Wall hold magnets, and you do not need special magnets for glass.
Start with a colour sample, the room’s light and what you want to do at the board.
